Silver City, NM – Delta Mu Delta and the Office of Institutional Advancement at

Western New Mexico University are hosting a free screening and post-movie discussion

panel of Waiting for Superman on Monday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Global Resource

Center Auditorium.

Waiting for Superman is an award-winning documentary released in 2010. The film

analyzes the failures of the American public education system and follows several

students throughout the country who hope to be selected into charter schools.

The panel discussion will include experts from higher education and the public school

systems discussing critical issues in education. Panelists include Eric Ahner, Aldo

Leopold Charter School Principal; Jose Carrillo, Cobre Consolidated Schools Assistant

Superintendent; Leslie Fritz, National Education Association of NM Representative; Dr.

Patricia Manzanares-Gonzales, WNMU School of Education Dean; Dick Pool, Silver

Consolidated Schools Superintendent; Patty Reed, Western Institute for Lifelong

Learning Board President; and Dr. Faye Vowell; WNMU Provost and Vice President for

Academic Affairs.

The event is free and open to the public. An opening reception with refreshments will

begin at 5:30 p.m. The screening is at 6:00 p.m. More information about
