Posted on April 14, 2011

WNMU men’s tennis has been having one of the best seasons the program has ever experienced. With an overall record of 16-3, and 6-0 in the RMAC, the mustang’s still have a lot of matches ahead of them. Some of the most important wins of the season were against Northern Arizona University, Grand Canyon University, Concordia University and Idaho State. During the season, Henning Thrien, Emmanuel Mensah, and Rodrigo Almeida were selected as RMAC player of the week. The WNMU men’s tennis team is heading up to Denver this week to play the RMAC tournament. After finishing first in the RMAC regular season with a 6-0 record, the mustangs are the number one seed for the tournament. During the regular season, the mustangs were undefeated against conference opponents. They have not given away any points against teams in the RMAC. The mustangs are also getting ready to play their regional championship match in Silver City. Their opponent is undecided, yet the match is going to be played at the WNMU tennis courts at 1pm on Tuesday, May 3rd. If the mustangs get the win at the regional match, they will solidify their spot into the National Tournament. On the other hand, the women’s team finished the RMAC regular season in 4th place, with a 3-3 record. During the season, Emily Lampman was selected as RMAC player of the week. The women tennis players had close losses against the top 3 teams in the RMAC. In all three losses, the girls had close chances to win. The women’s tennis players are looking forward to a re-match with the teams in the RMAC tournament. Prior to the tournament, both the men’s and women’s tennis teams will face New Mexico State University on Tuesday, April 19th.
