“Mustang Movie Madness”

will be the theme for this year’s Great Race, which has been held annually for over four decades on the

Western New Mexico University campus. Scheduled activities will include competitive mini-races, dodge ball, a dance and the talent show.

The events will culminate with the historic Great Race itself on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in Old James Stadium.

The weeklong activities, scheduled to precede the Great Race, begin on Monday, April 11 at 11:00 a.m.

This year’s lineup includes familiar events such as “King of the Mountain” (a race up 10th street),

“Who’s Got Speed?” (a race up College Avenue), and

“Pole Position” (teams compete for the best positioning place on the course). Other

activities include a talent show and bowling night.


The winning team of the Great Race is determined by point accumulation of the

weeklong events and the race itself. In addition to WNMU students, participants will include alumni and local high school



The Alumni Affairs Office has organized several activities for the weekend. Alumni

have their own entry in the Saturday race and will perform in the talent show.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Great Race on Saturday as well as
