Writing Across the Curriculum Lunch

Posted on March 3, 2011

You are invited to a Writing Across the Curriculum lunch on Friday, March 18, from 12-2 in the Meeting Room in the Student Memorial Building. Our theme will be online teaching, with a focus on writing and reading skills. If you teach online, bring your success stories. How do you motivate students? How do you grade participation? What have you discovered about online teaching? If you are interested in teaching online, bring your questions and concerns. Dean Foster, Richard Helbrock, and Randy Woodward will be on hand to tell us about new online tools and services. Dr. Gerald Burgess has a brief interesting  report on a reading assignment he gave following our last discussion.  I hope to get a few students to attend as well. Their perspective is always enlightening! A tasty lunch will be served. Please RSVP me by March 4.

And mark your calendar, as well, for April 1 when WAC is hosting a special lunch for all faculty interested in the ideas of service learning. Community partners will be invited. We will brainstorm the future of service learning at Western and use this opportunity to meet representatives from a range of programs, from The Volunteer Center to the Humane Society.

Finally, April 8 is the last WAC luncheon of the spring semester. The staff of the Writing Center will be there to discuss their services and goals. How can they better work with you? What can you do to help them  be better editors and mentors and help our students be better writers?
