GOVERNOR SUSANA MARTINEZ MAKES REGENT

APPOINTMENTS AT NEW MEXICO’S UNIVERSITIES

SANTA FE – Governor Susana Martinez announced today that she has made

appointments to the boards of regents, including student regent positions, at Eastern New

Mexico University, Western New Mexico University, and New Mexico Highlands

University.

“New Mexico’s colleges and universities have a proud legacy of providing our students

with a high-quality educational experience,” said Governor Martinez. “I look forward to

working with all of our regents to continue the tradition of guiding New Mexicans toward

success in the classroom and in the workforce.”

The Governor named Santana Chavez as a student regent at Eastern New Mexico

University. Chavez is an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Communicative

Disorders. She is the President of the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing

Association at ENMU and serves as the Secretary of ENMU Student Government.

Douglas Brett Leach was also named to the ENMU Board of Regents. Leach earned

undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology from ENMU and also worked as an

instructor and director of Law Enforcement Education at the university shortly after

graduation. He is a resident of Roswell and currently works as a financial consultant at

SWS Financial.

Governor Martinez appointed Kelly Clark to the student regent position at Western New

Mexico University. Clark enrolled at WNMU after serving as an Infantryman in the

United States Army. He was deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a crew member for a Bradley

Fighting Vehicle. He is a graduate of Silver City High School.

Caitlin Syner was named a student regent at New Mexico Highlands University. She is

pursuing a B.S. in Psychology at NMHU and works as a Peer Adviser at the NMHU

Office of Academic Support. She is active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program as

well as Autism Speaks.

Governor Martinez also appointed Frank Marchi of Albuquerque to the NMHU Board of

Regents. Marchi gradutated from NMHU in 1967 with a degree in Business. He is a

founding member of the NMHU Alumni Association and is a member of the University

Foundation Board. In 1996 he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of NMHU. Marchi is

currently an Insurance Executive and Business Consultant at Manuel Lujan Insurance,

Inc.
